It seems that every few months some former cast member or producer for the X-Files talks about the possibility about another film sequel and while Gillian Anderson was out promoting Johnny English reborn she dropped the nugget that there’s still a possibilty for this to become a reality.

“I hope it will happen; there’s talk of it. I don’t know who’s writing it, but I hear there’s something going on,” she said.
And she indicated that there could be even more life in the series, saying she wants to do a film spoof of the hit Fox TV show.
“I’ve always wanted to do a spoof of The X-Files as a film,” she continued. “We talked about that for a long time, but maybe after three features we could get to do a spoof feature.”
A third entry and a spoof? I loved the X-files show and, don’t get me wrong, would be interested in another entry in the film franchise but… really? Seriously? I mean at what point do people look at a franchise and realize that the ship has already sailed? At one time I used to think ideally about the idea of TV franchises having long healthy film lives but this one is in the same ship as a Whedon Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. Seriously, aside from internet geeks like you and I, how much interest is there from a general audience to see another return of a long dead TV series?
