The next Wolverine movie just can’t catch a break so far. After a lot of previous delays surrounding the production of the new movie it had seemed things were finally becoming stable at that the new movie would be a reality sooner rather than later. That was until it was recently discovered that the movie is currently undergoing a re-write.

The existing draft was written by Christopher McQuarrie and is said to be quite good. But now, as the film is delayed until a 2012 shoot, Total Recall remake and Jack the Giant Killer writer Mark Bomback has been brought on to rewrite. He also wrote Live Free or Die Hard, so. Along with that hire, we’ve got a few details, as Variety says the cast will be all Japanese and Japanese-American actors except for Hugh Jackman and “a newly-expanded character named Viper, who’s the Caucasian secretary for Japan’s Minister of Justice.”
…the script was based on the early ’80s Wolverine comics miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, but the trade offers this synopsis: “Story will find Wolverine suffering from amnesia and searching for answers about his past in the Japanese criminal underworld where he finds both love and tragedy.”
I want them to perfect this movie as it may be the last shred of hope for any type of faithful transition from comic to screen for Marvels favorite mutant especially while using one of his most revered storylines. Do I have much faith that this will actually happen? Hell No. Fox has gone out of their way to differentiate their X-Men from the comics which isn’t a deal breaker but it certainly walks the line when they start wandering into cherished storylines such as this.
Don’t even get me started on the Dark Phoenix Saga…
