The Crow has been trying to get the ball rolling all year and it just hit another, big, roadbump on the road to production with 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo exiting production for presumably greener, and less emo, endeavors.

Twitch reports that the company’s upcoming remake of The Crow has lost director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. Relativity brought Fresnadillo on board back in April to replace original director Stephen Norrington and helped bring aboard Alex Tse to take over on screenwriting duties. There’s no word on why he left, but Fresnadillo was also offered Summit’s Highlander reboot so that could have factored in his decision.
Usually I’m the guy who doesn’t easily dismiss the prospect of a remake. No, I don’t think that they’re ALL crap. A lot are really entertaining and are released at a time that makes their ideas are fresh and new again. The Crow just didn’t sit right with me when it was announced earlier in the year and made me feel like it was burdened with one bad idea after another including early rumors that claimed that “Marky” Mark Wahlberg was in the running for the title role.
I had hoped that Fresnadillo’s participation in the movie would help bring in brighter ideas and help change my overall outlook on the project but his departure does the exact opposite and reaffirms my fears and suspicions. I’m hoping that there’s some truth to his involvement in the Highlander reboot and that this idea for the Crow gets scrapped and put back in the oven until the ideas are developed well enough.
