Ken Jeong in ‘The Chung Factor’

It’s been about 4 yrs since I first saw Ken Jeong as Dr. Kuni in “Knocked Up” and since he’s been “paying his dues” it seems that the fine folks at Lionsgate have found that it’s time to give the man his own starring movie with it being “The Chung Factor”.

For what is surely his biggest job yet, TheWrap reports that Jeong will star in and produce Lionsgate’s comedy The Chung Factor. As they say, it follows “a nice guy who meets the girl of his dreams after being unlucky in love,” and when concerned with “screwing up the relationship, he takes advice from an offbeat relationship coach, played by Jeong.” Get ready for wackiness — “the coach is actually the woman’s ex-boyfriend and is out to sabotage the relationship and win her back.” The story is based on a spec script by Andy Selsor; it’s been on the Black List since 2005, but Lionsgate only picked it up today. Seeing as he’s a producer, it’s almost certainly a decision that has something to do with Jeong.

Count me out. Premise sounds nice and all but you know what? I can’t stand watching this guy on screen for a long time and devoting an entire movie to him is just beyond my limit. I actually grew angry during my viewing of The Hangover 2 because I just wished his character would just leave. I get it. He wants to act like a guy who’s struggling with his sexual identity and temper issues, but he uses that approach/character in just about everything he does to the point that it repulses some people. I enjoyed him in The Hangover 1 as I was surprised that he was even in the movie but after that anytime I see his name attached to a film I pretty much have an expectation of what I’m going to get out of the guy and I’m hardly wrong.

With that said, count me out of the Chung Factor for now. It’ll take some serious convincing to get me to change my mind on this.
