Hasbro announced recently that they’ve got about a billion reasons as to why they are actively looking into creating a 4th Transformers movie. I know, everybody act surprised. What’s also being mentioned is that they are still very much interested in the idea of Michael Bay returning for the eventual sequel.

THR reports on Hasbro as being “in active discussions” with Paramount, Bay, and executive producer Steven Spielberg about doing a fourth installment of the money-filled series. Although it’s too early to figure out if this will actually go anywhere, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner “hopes to have news to share in the next quarter”
Interesting but not at all surprising. I’m pretty sure that if they offered the guy enough money he’d certainly consider making another movie, but my understanding is that the next movie in the series would be the beginning of another trilogy… and therein lies the problem. Michael Bay has been working on Transformers movies, pretty much non-stop, since since the first was released in 2007 and he’d already mentioned a strong interest to do something different and expressed interest in directing a small budget comedy after Transformers 3. I wouldn’t hold my breath on the return of LeBouf as he’s expressed very little interest to return to this franchise moving forward and I don’t really think he’s needed moving forward anyway.
I like the idea of Bay returning for a 4h. Seriously, despite all the nit-picky complaints of the films I find them all very entertaining and enjoyable excuses to visit the theater. I like his his approach, and his humor and his overall involvement and hopefully someday we’ll get confirmation that he’ll continue to be involved in the franchise whether as a director or maybe even a producer.
