Logan’s Run getting rewrite by Andrew Baldwin

Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling made quite a strong impression recently with their collaboration in “Drive” and some of us have been anticipating their other planned project known as “Logan’s Run” with a bit of excitement and curiousity. I just learned that the movie is still being planned and is currently undergoing some re-writes.

Thus far, the screenwriting duties have bounced around amongst several sources — Alex Garland (Never Let Me Go) turned in an initial draft, while Will Beall (The Gangster Squad) followed that up with his input. But Refn and company must be looking for something different, as Warner Bros. has hired scribe Andrew Baldwin to come in and splice together his own take on the material. [The Hollywood Reporter]
Baldwin was behind the 2008 Black List script The West is Dead, which is set “during the Great Depression, [where] a group of semi-outlaws go on the run from the law when forced to vacate a town as the Hoover dam is constructed.” Gosling and Refn have a slew of other upcoming projects, too.

So the movie isn’t dead yet, no? Good as I was getting a little worried after not hearing much of anything about the project in recent weeks and Gosling continuously popping up in other projects not named “Logan’s Run”. The original movie is one of my personal favorites and I’ve found myself becoming a fan of Gosling’s work after his performances in “Crazy, Stupid Love” and “Drive”. Can’t wait to find out more and for this one to find its way into production.
