You know I’m getting a bit overwhelmed with the amount of discussion about The Dark Knight Rises being tacked on to a movie to help promote other projects. The back and forth about whether or not it’ll be with Mission Impossible was more than enough but today we get a helping of a similar rumor attached to as expectedly popular Sherlock Holmes.

Both Batman-News and Batman-on-Film, two of the biggest Batfan sites on the planet, reported that the new theatrical trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will be part of the previews attached to the upcoming WB’s sequel, SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS which opens on December 16th, 2011
But wait, that’s not all… Batman-News still says that you should expect to see a 6-minute prologue of TDKR in front of early IMAX release of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL also on December 16th.
This kinda news is getting to the point that it’s borderline insulting. “Attach the Dark Knight to it to make money” is not a game I want to play with Batman just so Hollywood can cross promote while they nickel and dime me with it as an attraction to see another. I fell for that crap with the Halo 3 beta but I refuse to do the same with a movie. I’m already looking forward to seeing Sherlock Holmes as it is plus I believe the movie has the legs to just stand on it’s own just fine. Why not take this time, and effort, to instead continue to make the best Dark Knight Rises they can make instead?
