Crank directors want Idris Elba for Crank 3

A third film in the Crank franchise is being planned by the directing duo that brought us the first two films and the upcoming Ghost Rider sequel. The duo had such a great time filming that movie with Elba that they’re interested in including the actor in another entry in the film series.

Nevedine says “we joking-but-not-quite-jokingly joked about that with Idris while we were over in Romania and Turkey. Just trying to figure out a way of getting him into Crank 3. There are so many different ways that Crank 3 could go. We’ve been talking about the top 50 ideas we what to do for Crank 3, so we’re just trying to pair them down. By the way, Crank 3 is going to happen, the studios are really excited about it – it’s just all about timing.”

Despite the last film’s ending, Jason Statham will be back as Chev Chellios in this outing. “With Crank, basically, you insert another quarter and you play the game again. It’s kind of like what thrills me and Brian, it’s whatever we feel like doing there in the moment, whatever we wanna do, we just do and make it happen. The important thing is what powers Chev. It was adrenaline that kept him alive in the first one, it was electricity in the second one, you know, it’s all about what will keep him alive in the third one. It’s just fun slinging those ideas around.”

Well this is pretty exciting news. I like that they’re making another entry in the franchise and adding appreciable talent to a picture is a good move in my book any day. Doesn’t hurt that, from what Elliot Hopper tells me, I have a pseudo man-crush on the guy and pretty much ingest whatever it is he works in. What can I say? The man can act! I thought he was funny as hell when he was on The Office and equally entertaining in most of his other roles. Definitely looking forward to finding out how this progresses. I’ll keep ya posted!
