You can say a lot about Guy Ritchie. Personally, I like the guy and have pretty decent expectations for his career in the future. One great thing about great directors is when they look back and revisit the work that helped earn them their ‘great’ status. Guy Ritchie is not yet a ‘Great’ director but he is intending to revisit his projects sometime in the future. When quizzed about RocknRolla the director mentioned this:

“You know, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it! I’ve written a script, I think it’s a great script, and Joel [Silver] wants to pay for me to do it. But up until now we haven’t had the time to do it. It’s sitting there and we’d all like to do it, it’s just a question of when we’re going to fit it in. So we’ll wait and see.”
I like the idea and the movie did set itself up nicely for a sequel. The obvious problem for making a sequel is that all the people involved have significantly increased in popularity since the release of the first film and getting schedules together could be a logistics nightmare. Not to mention the budget.
I’d like to see this movie happen just as much as the next guy I’m just not sure how that may be possible. Let’s see how this new Sherlock Holmes movie performs in the box office and I’m sure it will give us some insight into the upcoming schedule of Mr. Ritchie.
