For those of us who saw R.E.D. we know that the older people can kick ass. The movie was a wicked success in showing that even while growing older these secret agents are dangerous, lethal, and extremely efficient at being bad ass and showing younger spies that they haven’t lost a step in their age. The film came out to success in the box office and a sequel had been planned for some time and today we find out that the movie is making traction and has a director attached to helm the project.

RED 2, the sequel to the 2010 comic book adaptation of the same name, already has a writer and a release date, and now the movie has a new director. The movie will be directed by Dean Parisot, the director of Galaxy Quest and Fun with Dick and Jane. Parisot has also directed a couple of various TV episodes. According to Variety, production on RED 2 could be a way off and Bruce Willis has yet to sign on as well as the other members of the cast such as John Malkovich and Helen Mirren. RED 2 will be one of the final movies to fly under the Summit Entertainment banner before it integrates with Lionsgate.
Jon and Erich Hober have already signed on to write Red 2, which is schedule to be released in August 2013.
It’s interesting that they have a release date in mind without actually signing on any of the stars to reprise their roles. It’s interesting to find out that Morgan Freeman is not at all mentioned in this news and I’d wondered if they would try to bring his character back from the grave. Seriously, Hollywood does not want to let a silly little thing like death come between them and profit so it’s a little surprising. I’ll stay tuned and keep you guys posted as details inevitably emerge.
