Anchorman’s Adam McKay may direct ‘Uptown’ remake

Adam McKay is making sure that he’ll be a busy guy throughout the end of the year and beyond. Deadline is reporting that the director is in negotiations to direct the “Uptown Saturday Night” film that was being pitched as a film pairing for Will Smith and Denzel Washington. The hope is that the two will still participate and star in the movie and that it will be McKay’s next film after he wraps up production on the Anchorman sequel.

Trailer for the 1974 original:

The 1974 comedy starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier as pals who visit an illegal nightclub, and are forced to hand over their wallets to thieves. Turns out one of them contains a winning lottery ticket, emboldening the duo to bump up against the criminal element to get back the wallet.
