This is not a ‘April Fools’ gag. The rumor circulating the web today is that Ashton Kutcher, (The 70’s Show, Two and a Half Men), is being lined up for the role to play Apple founder Steve Jobs in a biopic which is more than a little unexpected. The news comes from Screencrave via /Film. The film is purported to be called ‘Jobs’ and Variety reports that ” Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) will direct from a script written by Matt Whiteley, and that the film will follow Jobs’ life from “wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, where he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time.” It’s been no secret that a biopic about the mans life was in the making as there have been reports of such a thing since the moment of his untimely passing. The timing is a bit odd as its still fairly recent that the man passed away and may not be the best P.C. time to unleash such news. I’m certainly intrigued by the potential for such a film but I’m uncertain about some of the decision making that’s making the rounds thus far.
The other aspect to consider is the casting of Kutcher. What gives there? Are they going simply for looks because if so then it makes a lot of sense. If you look closely enough you can certainly see the resemblences between Kutcher and a young Steve Jobs and might actually confuse the two for being related. On a scale of 1 to 10 I think the casting would be between a 6 and a 7. Kutcher has made efforts to be a dramatic actor in the past and his character on “Two and a Half Men” also made his fortune typing computer mumbo-jumbo into a C++ Dos doohickey but I’m sure that this casting will still leave quite a few people confused and concerned.
No news on a start date but I’m completely intrigued as to how this will proceed from here.
