Kick-Ass 2 is going to move forward, with or without Matthew Vaughn

Kick-Ass 2 has been given the green light but Matthew Vaughn’s involvement is uncertain.  The film was a surprise hit for 2010 being on a low budget of 28 million and taking in 103 million worldwide.  Matthew Vaughn claims that he will be involved with the project in some way but at this point he does not know how he will be involved due to his work on the sequel to X-men First Class

Deadline says that studio Universal hopes to have the follow-up in production by August, with new screenwriter Jeff Wadlow directing his own script. Vaughn is committed to the second X-Men: First Class film which also featured Goldman’s writing work. Original Kick-Ass cast members such as Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are all being approached to star in the sequel.

Via: GuardianMatthew Vaughn has proven himself by taking a small budget, that he partially raised himself, and made a successful movie that received positive critical acclaim.  I have mixed feelings about the studio moving forward without Vaughn directing.  Look at what happened when Bryan Singer left the X-men series to do Superman Returns, we got Brett Ratner’s piece of crap, X-men: The Last Stand.  As much as I want to see a sequel to Kick-Ass, I do hope they wait to have the maximum amount of involvement from Matthew Vaughn.  I would hate to see a sequel that does not have that cohesive transition that is needed in a sequel.
