Will Smith’s name has been attached to many many sequels recently including the possibility of him reprising his role for a sequel to 2007’s “I Am Legend”. Aside from the obvious problem of reprising his role because his character… ya know… there’s also the fear of being labeled ‘The sequel guy’…
Speaking to Radio 1′s Chris Moyles, the 43-year-old actor revealed producers are working on I Am Legend II but that he was unlikely to take part.
When asked if he would be involved, Smith said: “Probably not. Producers are working on it. I’m not actually working on it. If it’s great, I’m into it. I don’t want to be the sequel guy. I figure I’ve got about six or seven more years where I can run and jump a little bit and then I’m going butt and gut for the rest of my career. Butt and gut.”
Clearly b eing the sequel guy getting paid $20+ million per movie role is an awful idea. CLEARLY. Aside from that little tidbit of information I’d like to see Smith continue to expand further into other roles that allow him to showcase his more comedic talents. He still has that ‘Uptown‘ remake on the table, And I wish he’d progress with that instead. He doesn’t need to do a “I Am Legend 2” or a “MIB4”. Some films are great as they are and MIB has a full trilogy to market and sell on DVD and BluRay for years to come. Let’s all move on, shall we?
