John Leguizamo is one of those actors that exploded when first introduced to audiences and then somewhat faded into the background of the course of the years. He didn’t fully fade into obscurity but he’s not on the same career path that he once was. I like Leguizamo as an actor and always felt he had a lot of potential with some memorable performances under his belt like portraying Benny Blanco from the Bronx in Carlito’s Way to Chi-Chi in “Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar” and more. He didn’t really stop acting or stop getting roles but kinda went into the background and is mostly notable, today, for his voice as Sid the Sloth in the Ice Age films. Whatever pays the bills. But moving forward he’s getting involved in some roles that I think he’ll be allowed to sink his teeth into and possibly have fun with:
Leguizamo has reportedly booked parts in Ridley Scott‘s drug drama The Counselor, joining the likes of Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, and Cameron Diaz, and Jeff Wadlow‘s comic book sequel Kick-Ass 2, which also stars Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. More details after the jump.
Joining an ensemble composed of Michael Fassbender and Javier Bardem and being directed by Ridley Scott is a great career move. I like Leguizamo and I think he could have a lot of fun in both roles as he’s seemingly has a fondness for films that are about the drug trade and the individuals throughout, and he has a comical side and joining Kick-Ass will be his second comic film role after portraying the character Violater in the Spawn movie. All-in-all it seems that we’ll be seeing more of Leguizamo in the future and I hope that grows. I’ll keep you posted on the happenings of this guy whenever it’s available, but that’s all for now…
