The Mortal Kombat movies’ new plot

Remember that fun web series that was released a year or so ago? At first project was just a mock-up for pitching purposes but eventually got translated into an entire web series coinciding with the release of a new console game. The popularity and success of those videos generated a DVD release for all of the collected shorts as well as the green-light for a full feature film handled by web series director Kevin Tancharoen and now we have learned the basic story plot as well as the intended budget:

According to WebSeriesNetwork Warner Bros. Executive Lance Sloan that the project is moving forward with the price tag of 40-50 million dollars, which is reasonable amount for the subject matter that the film should cover.

The rumored plot follows “a lowly unlucky supermarket employee who discovers that he has “out of this world” powers and must decide between good and evil, even though the evil side has helped him discover his true potential and who he really is.”

Well, that’s… not at all what I expected but you know what? It might work. Mix in some sort of fighting tournament for the fate of the universe, a mad sorcerer or two and a guy who hurls lightning and wears all white and we’ve got ourselves a movie! I really was happy with the web series and have been anticipating the idea of another Mortal Monday or something. The web series proved that a mature approach to the franchise can work if the script and production are handled with care. I can’t wait to see how this develops and will be sure to pass along any news.
