The last movie written and directed by the Coen brothers was the brilliant True Grit. The last film they wrote was Gambit, which was far from the greatness of True Grit, but enjoyable nonetheless. Their next treat for us, Inside Llewyn Davis is due for release in December, after showing at festivals to the lead up. The movie won the Grand Prix Award at Cannes this year, so we should expect yet another masterpiece from this creative quirky duo! I’m definitely excited.
Follow a week in the life of a young folk singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961. Guitar in tow, huddled against the unforgiving New York winter, he is struggling to make it as a musician against seemingly insurmountable obstacles – some of them of his own making.
The trailer is classically beautiful in true Coen style, laced with earthy and grey hues. We also get a sneak peek (to our ears) of the music. It was produced by T-Bone Burnett who is responsible for the incredible O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. Carey Mulligan’s husband Marcus Mumford also worked with T-Bone on Inside Llewyn Davis’ soundtrack.
