It's that time of the month, December is here so it's time to take a look at the must see movies that were released in November. The list contains movies such as: limited theatrical releases, Blu-ray & DVD, On Demand, TV Show DVD releases, a classic movie picks, and personal pick for this month. November was a really strong month of releases, so check out these movies and shows: STAR TREK BEYOND The best of the Star Trek movies. Beyond really focuses on the characters and delves in deeper into them. Once again Chris Pine leads the charge as Kirk, but he faces struggles that require an entire team effort to overcome. The dialogue is far better than the previous films, even the one-liners come through. Can't go wrong with Idris Elba as the main villain either. Visually it looks awesome. Justin Lin has the right feel for this franchise and how to make it exciting, and it shows in Beyond. Lots of fun. The Blu-ray comes packed with a bunch of cool bonus features that take you behind the scenes of the making of the movie. I am certain that Star Trek fans will love it and non-Trekkies also. It's plainly a really good Sci-Fi movie. Star Trek Beyond is available now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray Combo Packs, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand BAD MOMS Fans of The Hangover will certainly enjoy Bad Moms—I did. It's the female Hangover, directed by the writers of the original Hangover. It's all about mothers letting lose, while maintaining their responsibilities as parents. I liked the movie a lot for the outrageous hilarious moments. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn deliver big time. It was fun seeing a movie centered on women having fun and being outrageous, these roles and films are usually dedicated to men (see: Hangover). This is a really raunchy movie filled with sex jokes, but it's fitting to the plot and characters. I can't see how this movie would have worked if it wasn't raunchy. There is something about that sort of honesty of Bad Moms that's refreshing and humorous at the same time. The Blu-ray offers deleted scenes, gag reel and a neat cast & their moms interview segment. Bad Moms is out now on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand THE SEA OF TREES Matthew McConaughey and Naomi Watts are lost in the forest—no really. McConaughey plays a professor that travels to Japan to discover himself. He enters a mysterious forest where he encounters a woman (Watts). Together they go on a life altering journey of self-discovery. There was a movie earlier this year that I recommended called The Forest that had Americans lost in a forest in Japan, thought that one was a horror and this one is a drama. The fine actors and a solid story equals The Sea of Trees. I enjoyed the exploration of friendship, feelings and survival the characters embark on. An under-the-radar movie that is worth your time. The Sea of Trees is out now on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand BATMAN: THE RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS This movie is just so cool. Batman fans and fans of the original Batman 1960's television series will surely love this is a much as I did. Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar voice their original characters in this animated version of the classic series. All the great villains are in the movie, such as Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman. The nostalgia definitely hit me watching this, I really liked the animation also, as it stayed true to the look of the characters, but with a modern animated touch. There are some great lines, such as, "quickly Robin to the crosswalk". Definitely check this one out. Batman: The Return of the Caped Crusaders is available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD INDIGNATION Logan Lerman is a terrific young actor. He was outstanding in Fury, but Indignation might have been his most prolific role. In the movie Lerman stars as a working class Jewish kid that goes to a private school in Ohio and becomes infatuated with a girl in his class. Sarah Gadon plays the girl. The film is mysterious in a non-mysterious way. The natural progression of the film make it intriguing as it moves along. There is a lot going on. There is the relationships between two young people that's complex in a variety of ways. There is the cultural adjustment of college and being what it's like being a young Jewish college student trying to fit in and and discover yourself in the 1950's. The war looms in the background of the film. Indignation is a drama with many layers. This is a well done movie. Indignation is out now on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand FINDING DORY Finding Nemo was a smashing hit, but Finding Dory is an even better movie. The film is a lot more deeper (no pun intended) with some messages that will resonate with adults. The characters have a lot of personality, and of course Marlin and Nemo are there for the ride also. In the movie Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) is attempting to remember to get back home to her parents who may be searching for her. During her journey to find home Dory encounters many sea creature friends that complete this movie. The visuals are great, the characters are personable and funny, the plot is nicely developed. Dory is a sequel that doesn't disappoint, rather it builds on the success of it's predecessor. Finding Dory is great to kids and adults. The Blu-ray includes a variety of special features. Finding Dory is available now on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand HELL OR HIGH WATER I was initially hot and cold on this movie, but after seeing it again I grew a better appreciation of it. Chris Pine delivers his best performance to date. Jeff Bridges is so good as a small town Texas Ranger that I couldn't stand him. The film has a very ''Texas'' look and tone to it. The story follows two brothers (Pine and Ben Foster) who partake in high risk local town bank robberies. They are constantly on the run from the grizzled Texas Ranger that's played by Bridges. This film isn't flashy, but it's gritty. It's a violent movie at times so not for the faint of heart. It's raw and authentic to the region. It's a movie you should see for yourself and make an opinion of it yourself. Give it a chance, I did. Hell Or High Water is available now on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand HANDS OF STONE There has been a heavy run of boxing films lately, one of the best of them is Hands of Stone. Based on the true story of famed boxer Roberto Duran. Edgar Ramirez plays Duran, from his humble beginnings in Cuba all the way through his championship fights with Sugar Ray Leonard. It's a compelling story and film. Ramirez embodies the good and bad sides of Duran. Usher eerily resembles Sugar Ray Leonard. Ana de Armas steals the show playing Duran's wife. The fight scenes are nicely executed, the buildup feels real. The side story of Duran as a person out of the ring is just as compelling as the fights. The storytelling is on point. There is a lot to like about this film, lots of it is due to the great execution of the plot and action. The boxing is hard hitting, no pun intended. I'm a big fan of boxing movies, so this was an easy buy for me, but you don't have to be a fan of boxing or boxing movies to enjoy Hands of Stone. Hands of Stone is available now on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand MECHANIC 2: RESURRECTION I enjoyed the first Mechanic movie, the second one keeps a similar style. Bishop is back out of hiatus and he needs to save a beautiful woman (Jessica Alba) and of course risk his life with dozens of death defying stunts. The action is fierce and fast paced. There are a variety of cool exotic locations that Bishop pays a visit to. Jason Statham is ideal for the role of the ass kicking Bishop, thankfully he returned for Resurrection. It's not the perfect movie by any means, but it's just the kinda action movie that entertains the right way. Just sit back and enjoy kinda film. The pool scene on the balcony rooftop is pretty spectacular. Fans of the first film, Statham fans and action fans will especially enjoy Mechanic 2. Mechanic 2: Resurrection is available now on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand WAR DOGS One of my personal favorite movies of the year. War Dogs is a fascinating real life story of two regular guys who became the leading arms dealers during the war in Afghanistan. Jonah Hill and Miles Teller have great on-screen chemistry together. Hill is so good and fun, one of my favorite and funniest performances that I've seen from him (that's saying a lot). What makes the movie so great and entertaining is the presentation of it. It's funny, scary, outrageous and engaging in just the right moments. It's lavish when the action takes place in Miami, but much darker when the action takes place overseas. It's that balance that makes the movie so dynamic. There stakes are raised and grounded with the right kind of flare and payoff. There is little not to like about the movie. It has all the elements styalistically, perfomance wise, dialogue and plot action that emerses a viewer. I was excited and locked in thrughout. If you molded The Wolf of Wall Street with The Big Short and with Pain and Gain then you'd get War Dogs. That's a heck of a blend. Go get this movie, it's well worth you time and money. War Dogs is out now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand THE WILD LIFE Castaway human Robinson Crusoe arrives on an inhibited with exotic animals, initial unrest leads both sides to have to work together for a greater cause. This is a fun animated film with colorful exotic animals. By exotic I mean a parrot, chameleon, tapir, pangolin, goat and kingfisher. Imagine their surprise when a human and a dog arrive on their island. The film is lighthearted, colorful and fun. It falls in the same category as a movie like Ice Age, stylistically and conceptually. As a huge animal lover this film was an easy buy for me, and I enjoyed it. Kids will surely like it. The Wild Life is out now on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand THE BFG The BFG is the kind of movie that live animation is made for. Visually sizzling. I wasn't high on this movie initially, but after giving it another try, I can't help but appreciate the visuals. The film is about an orphan girls (Sophie Barnhill) unique friendship with a Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance). Watching the movie it was pretty clear that Rylance had a big influence into the character. The characters mannerisms, the facial expressions are heavily resembling that of Rylance. There are some neat extras on the Blu-ray version that are worth checking out, especially if you are curious about how the animation was brought to life. This is a kids movie, but the adults will get the messages of the movie. The BFG is available on Blu-ray, DVD, Digtial HD and Disney Movies Anywhere DON'T BREATHE One of the best horror thrillers of the year. Director Fede Alvarez delivers on a pulse-pounding movie about three young adults attempting to rob an old blind man. Only problem being, the blind man isn't going to allow himself to be a victim. I really enjoyed the real tension this movie brought about. Stephen Lang does a great job as the imposing blind man, who had me conflicted at times whether I wanted to root for him and against him. The first half of the movie has the feel of Cloverfield Lane (another top thriller this year), while the second half has a very different and tone, much more horror driven. It's an indie horror that has high quality acting, directing and production value. A movie that had me feeling uneasy and on the edge throughout. Don't Breathe is out now on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand THE INTERVENTION Four couples take a weekend getaway with the plan to host a marriage intervention for one of the couples. I enjoyed this film for the realistic situations and questions being confronted about relationships and life. It's focused on a group of friends that are dealing with life and the meaning of their own belonging. The movie is most relatable to someone in the late twenties-mid thirties age group. Director/actor Clea DuVall forms an ideal cast comprised of Jason Ritter, Cobi Smulders, Melanie Lynskey, Ben Schwartz and Vincent Piazza among others. There is a lot to like about The Intervention. The funny moments are there also when needed. The Intervention is out on DVD and On Demand TV SHOWS: THE GAME OF THRONES: THE COMPLETE 6TH SEASON You can make a really good argument that the Game of Thrones is the best show on TV today. The sixth season is just as good as you hope it would be. Shows tend to fade away and get stale after a few seasons, but this is not a typical show. The fallout of Jon Snow's fate, Cersei's public embarrassment and a lot more. The familiar faces of Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Kit Harrington and Peter Dinklage are back. What makes this Blu-ray even more spectacular is the special features. There are dozens of features, including a LOT of audio commentaries, nearly twenty character perspectives and many more features most definitely worth checking out and getting the Blu-ray for. The Game Of Thrones: The Complete Sixth Season is available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD LIMITED THEATRICAL AND VOD: MY DEAD BOYFRIEND I liked the concept idea of this comedy. Heather Graham plays a woman who comes home and finds her couch potato boyfriend is dead. What ensues is a series of encounters she has with people who knew her boyfriend Primo and begin to disclose to her who he was and what he did in his life. Graham still looks ageless. The film is set in the late 90's and it nails the time and look. Graham was well cast in that retrospect. The film has funny awkward moments and a fairly original plot. I enjoyed it. My Dead Boyfriend is out now in select theaters, On Demand and Digital HD SPECIAL RELEASE: HUNGER GAMES SERIES COMBO PACK The Hunger Games fans will love the release of the entire movie series bundle. The Combo Pack is a 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack. So you get the 4K and Blu-ray versions of each of the four movies. What I like about it is that each movie offers a lot of bonus features, for fans that's always worth checking out. The first Hunger Games movie is cool, but personally Mockingjay — Part 1 is my favorite one. Either way this is a bundle that's worth checking out. The Hunger Games 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack plus Blu-ray and Digital HD (all four movies) is available now. PERSONAL PICK OF THE MONTH: THE MODEL The Model is an excellent foreign film you might not have seen. It's a Danish film, from a Danish director (Mads Matthiesen) about a Danish girl (Maria Palm) who sets out to Paris to become a famous model. While she achieves success, things begin to spiral out of control. It's an awesome and suspenseful movie that will have you intrigued till the very end, it had me hooked. It's as authentic of a representation of the glamorous and ugly side of high end fashion modeling. You'll really like this movie, take my word on it. The Model is available now on DVD CLASSIC PICK: IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE How could anyone go wrong with one of the greatest Christmas movies ever. Christmas is right around the corner so I'd highly suggest you get reacquainted with this classic. Starring the iconic James Stewart and Donna Reed. Paramount released this 7Oth Anniversary Platinum Edition of the film. What's cool about it is that it comes in the original black and white version as well as the color version. Can't go wrong with this Blu-ray, as a stocking stuffer or one for the collection.
