Paul Bettany will join the ranks of John Travolta, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in the elite role of getting to play angels in a movie called Legion.
Variety reports that Paul Bettany has signed on to star in an upcoming thriller called Legion. From a script by Scott Stewart and Peter Schink, which Stewart will direct, the film focuses on “what happens when God loses faith in humanity and sends his legion of angels to wipe out the human race for the second time. Mankind’s only hope lies in a group of misfits holed up in a diner in the desert who are aided by the archangel Michael (Bettany).”
Bettany is one of those actors that you just absolutely LOVE and then somehow forget he was out there. Its a damned shame too.
He was one of the most redeeming part of A Knight’s Tale (it has a lot wrong with it but its fluff and I liked it) and everything else he has been in he just shines. He is vulnerable and real and always plays something you can relate to. I actually look forward to seeing this BECAUSE he is in it.
However, I think the description is a little too vague to launch this film into the type of epic battles that this implies to be. Cuz for serious, God is bigger than the bogeyman. So how is a rag tag bunch of misfits to fare against the legions of heaven and the creator of reality itself. And if you bothered to read the book, the last time one of God’s upperclassmen angels took a stand against him, it didn’t work out all that well for him.
I guess we will have to wait to see how it unfolds.
