Ouch! I’ve been saying for a little while now that I believed that Wimbledon was going to be a great flick. Well, the early reviews are here and they seem to be kicking me in the tender places. So far the vast majority of critics just HATE this film… which makes me sad because I was rooting for Paul Bettany to have a leading man hit on his hands. I guess he’ll have to wait for the next one I suppose.
“Wimbledon is convinced that there‚Äôs nothing funnier in the world than seeing a grown man have a conversation with a dog.”
— Ed Gonzalez, SLANT MAGAZINE“Strictly of the take-it-or-leave-it variety, not romantic or involving or memorable enough to warrant more than an ultra-brief passing glance.”
— Dustin Putman, THEMOVIEBOY.COM“Boasts appealing leads and dazzling court play, but the film never rises above its by-the-numbers plot to generate emotional heat.”
— Sheri Linden, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
I’ve always said it… 7 out of 10 times romantic comedies will let you down… even an English one. Poop. Oh well, to see more critics reviews of Wimbledon go check out Rotten Tomatoes.
