When I heard the news that the ‘Hellraiser’ remake was in fact being delayed until next year due to the writer’s strike, I was secretly hoping that the delay would lead into the cancellation of the project period. Alas, I did not get my wish. To add salt to the wound, I found out that Clive Barker will not return to write and direct the remake, but in fact the writers who wrote ‘Feast’ and ‘Saw 4’ and this year’s ‘Saw 5’ have stepped to the plate to tarnish yet another classic horror film.
Shocktillyoudrop.com gives us these details:
They are angels to some, demons to others…writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton have recently signed a deal with The Weinstein Company to pen the upcoming Hellraiser remake.
The Weinstein brothers recently set a release date of January 9, 2009 for Hellraiser after it was evident directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury were never going to make the initial (unrealistic) September bow.
Okay, I don’t have any problems with the screenwriting duo. I thought ‘Feast’ was an exceptional independent horror film, and although ‘Saw 4’ was all OVER the place, I still didn’t think it was the worst of the series. My problem is that ‘Hellraiser’ is something that I think can only truly being resurrected successfully if Clive Barker was onboard. The series has already hit an all time low, why not have the creator make it right? I honestly am quite sick of having to write about countless and needless remakes to films that are not even 30 years old.
How about you?
