The man who won a best director Oscar for “The English Patient” and who was nominated for another Oscar for writing the script “The Talented Mr. Ripley” has passed away. Anthony Minghella was only 54. Yahoo News gives us this:
Minghella died from complications following surgery last week for cancer of the tonsils and neck, agent Leslee Dart said.
“The surgery had gone well and they were very optimistic,” she said. “But he developed a hemorrhage last night and they were not able to stop it.” He was married to Carolyn Choa and had two grown-up children, Max and Hannah.
This was a gifted and talented man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his close friends and family. This is a true loss for the movie world.
