We hear word today about Serious Moonlight, a dark comedy written by Adrienne Shelly and set to star Kristen Bell and Justin Long. We get the skinny on this one thanks to our friends at cinematical:
The film is a dark comedy about a “high-powered female attorney who learns that her husband is about to leave her for another woman, then prevents him from doing so by binding him to the toilet with duct tape.” Things get messy, however, when robbers break in.
I’m not exactly sure why, but news about Serious Moonlight isn’t really getting released. I posted about the project back in October — the film was written by the late Adrienne Shelly, is being produced by her widower, and had Cheryl Hines (who co-starred in Waitress) attached to direct. While reading Lou Lumenick’s current post about Meg Ryan, he mentioned the film and its stars — Kristen Bell and Justin Long.
I cannot say I am chomping at the bit to see this one, but I am glad cinematical gave us the heads up. The film is currently in post production and a release date should be coming down the pipe shortly. I enjoy dark comedy, the blacker the better and with luck this one will be a surprise delight.
Waitress is a film that was well received, and sadly Adrienne Shelly passed before she could see the full success of her film. Luckily we have another one of her works in Serious Moonlight that will pay homage to her talent and celebrate the ability of this artist that was taken before her time.
Kristen Bell looks like an elven emissary from a far off land; she was also great as the ex-girlfriend in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I would not say that I am a fan of Kristen Bell at this point – but I certainly don’t mind her as an actress and am interested in seeing her work in other comedic roles.
We will be sure to keep you posted about this project and as soon as we have a release date – we will hook you up!
