It appears snakes are not the only beasts that will be wreaking havoc in the skies above us. We learn today of plans to make a monster movie called Bat Out Of Hell! We get the following scoop from the professionals at Variety:
Veteran director Joe Dante will helm indie horror project “Bat Out of Hell” for Parallel Zide and VooDoo Prods. “Bat Out of Hell,” written by Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan, centers on a red-eye flight from L.A. to New York during which hijackers confront the monstrous cargo.
Dante’s credits include “Piranha,” both “Gremlins” pics, “Small Soldiers” and the “Masters of Horror” TV series. McWeeny’s also worked on “Masters of Horror,” spent 12 years at online site Ain’t It Cool News and has teamed with Swan on “Dread,” “Mortal Kombat: Devastation” and a remake of “Race With the Devil.”
When the guy who directed Gremlins announces he is doing a monster movie on a plane, named Bat Out Of Hell – there is reason to get excited. Snakes On A Plane may be the beginning of many “creature flight” films. I am abuzz with curiosity, and anxious to find out more information about this project.
Do the terrorists get taken down by a secret monster being held in cargo? Is the beast in an egg, and does the turbulence crack the prison orb and let it loose? Whatever the cause, if a monster is killing terrorists on a plane – I am down. International friends, I hope this one turns the ridiculous up to 11.
