Ouch. John has expressed his previous concern over the Disney creation of Toy Story 3, and I do share those concerns wholeheartedly. Disney are on a huge loosing streak, and it’s not getting better, whatever the reasons they lack the ability to produce something that is worthy of a third in this franchise and must clearly stand next to The Incredibles with pride.
MovieBlog has previously carried news about Toy Story 3 (see both posts) but Hollywood Reporter are basically saying that Disney are about to rub Pixars nose into it:
Disney is in the process of setting up a digital animation facility in Glendale, not all that far from DreamWorks Animation’s digs, that will be used for the production of “Toy Story 3.”
If there was a concern that the movie wasn’t into production:
Andrew Millstein, who headed the company’s now-shuttered animation facility in Orlando, also is involved and has begun the process of recruiting animation heavyweights from rival animation studios and effects shops.
Makes sense, if they haven’t got the ability to make it themselves, bring in the talent. Could we see Pixar make a rival movie to make fun of theirs? Well with the number of Disney jokes and digs in previous movies, it wouldn’t surprise me.
What causes further concern is the additional information from Coming Soon dating back to an article in October:
Disney chief executive Michael Eisner said yesterday that Walt Disney Pictures is working on two new sequels in the “Toy Story” series at the same time. “We’re doing two ‘Toy Stories’ at once,” Eisner said.
A spokeswoman for Disney elaborated, saying, “They’re working on different story ideas with the hopes there will be a ‘Toy Story 3’ and another after that.”
I’ve just bowed my head slightly and shaken my head, and I’ve read the quote about five times while getting this article prepared! What do you think, can they possibly pull it off?
