This is cool. It appears that the Jumper disc will have an unfiltered making of documentary that shows all the highs and lows of production. We get the following news from our friends at MTV:
Admit it, most DVD extras are self-indulgent, ego-stroking puff pieces that — if we’re lucky — include a little illumination amid the glorification. And we love it (and rightfully so, since so much of it has the added bonus of being cool). But it’s not for Doug Liman, who told MTV News that the bonus features on his newest DVD, “Jumper,” will include glimpses into all the drama that the production could muster. And then some.
“We had a documentary film crew follow us and we let them put whatever they wanted on the DVD, so I think it’s a much more interesting beyond [the norm],” he continued. “It was just grueling.”
I am normally not a big fan of DVD extras, but stuff like this certainly reels me in. I like to see behind the scenes footage after the finished work and try to see if any of the films more annoying scenes directly relate to real life production problems. Sometimes you do what you can, and hope for the best; filmmaking in that regard is like any other type of employment. On the other side of the coin, I would suppose when everything comes together during production that the feeling of “something special” is in the air.
I was not the biggest fan of Jumper, but this may get me to the rental store, just so I can see this mini doc. I am guessing there is a good chance I may enjoy this doc more than Jumper itself. We shall see.
