Back in classic musical cinema, dancing and singing was far more important than how you ranked on the gossip meter. Of course if you dance like that now, it will get you beat up on the playground but it truly was an art. Ask anyone to name actors from the song and dance era and you are likely to hear names like Fred Estaire and Ginger Rogers, but ask them to name the most notable movie, and most would say Singin’ in the Rain.
Singin’ star Cyd Charisse has passed away at age 86.
Charisse has died of an apparent heart attack at the age of 86, and she’s hopefully joining old partners Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly for some of the best dance scenes ever seen up in heaven. With the former, she was paired up in The Band Wagon, Ziegfeld Follies and Silk Stockings (for which she received a Golden Globe nomination), and with the latter, she danced in Brigadoon, It’s Always Fair Weather, Invitation to Dance and, of course, in Singin’ in the Rain.
There is not much more I can say that this video shared on Cinematical put up.
Rest in peace Cyd. May you dance again.
