It looks like Favreau will be back to direct the Iron Man for another round! We get the following (unconfirmed) exclusive from our friends at themovingpicture:
It’s not officially announced yet, but I’m told that Marvel Studios and Iron Man director Jon Favreau have reached a deal for him to helm the sequel, due out in 2010. (Robert Downey Jr had a sequel clause in his contract so he’s on board.) Marvel Studios boss David Maisel was quick to put out a “definitely” richer offer to Favreau, but not quick enough for Jon — who used the Internet and other media to rile up the movie’s many fans by spreading nonsense that Marvel was dragging its feet and then lowballing him.
Well this is good news. I never had any doubt that Favreau would be back, but it’s nice to know that the deal has been locked up. No word yet on what his paycheck will be, but we will try and snoop for that information as well.
I enjoyed Iron Man very much. The construction of the suits was a treat for me. I love it when armor and weapons are forged in a film, and this love carried over to the high tech assembly of the Iron Man exoskeleton in spades. Sadly we will probably see way less of this in the sequel (and for good reason) but I hope what they lose in forging, they make up in violence.
