Sometimes when an actor dies it brings unwanted attention to a project. We saw much of this debate when Heath Ledger left this mortal plane just months before the release of The Dark Knight.
Now after a weekend with a double whammy of bad news with Bernie Mac dying followed by Isaac Hayes the very next day, and now we are reminded that both of them will star in Soul Men out later this year.
The upcoming comedy, set to be released in November, features both comedian Bernie Mac and singer Isaac Hayes, who died within one day of each other this weekend. And eerily enough, the movie’s plot is about death.
In “Soul Men,” a rhythm-and-blues band reunites 20 years after their acrimonious breakup following the death of the band’s lead singer. Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac play the group’s two main members, while Isaac Hayes portrays himself.
Not that I expect them to monopolize on the deaths of these two celebrities to promote the movie, but won’t it be wierd to see a movie when two of the main stars have left us?
Especially when it is supposed to be a comedy that deals with death??
Maybe the film will be delayed or shelved, but more likely the initial media buzz about their deaths will have passed by the time this movie comes around.
