Some actors are just made of steel when it comes to keeping their yaps shut about a movie, but Robert Downey Jr just loves to yack, so lots spills out. Here he gets caught chatting it up about IronMan2 and manages to get a side order of Sherlock Holmes in there too.
Chicago Sun Times quotes Downey,
“You want some plot secrets? Okay, here we go,” Downey said in an interview this weekend. “If he said he’s Iron Man in the first film, it’s one thing to say it and another thing to evolve to a point where you can live in a heroic fashion.”
I like that they are trying to balance the man in the suit and the suit itself. It makes sense that he would reveal they are hoping to do much of what worked the first time (if it ain’t broke…) and talks about the closing moments of IronMan and how that will play into the sequel. Great news!
Then he starts blathering about Sherlock Homes, Guy Ritchie’s take on the classic super slueth.
“It’s a contemporary version of a classic tale. But we’re not telling one of the stories from the books.” By the way, Downey’s Sherlock will also kick you know what.
“The cool thing about Sherlock is he’s a very skilled martial artist,” Downey said. “So it’s not just about is deductions. This movie will also be a very action-packed version of Sherlock Holmes.”
Oh dear God that just sounds horrible. A modern day Sherlock Homes who also happens to be a martial arts expert?
I thought the brilliance of Sherlock Holmes was that he could deduce any criminal into submission and solve crimes without lifting a finger. Now he is a modern day detective and martial arts expert and we are to expect an action packed adventure? Personally I would love to see Downey spread his smarm all over a brilliant and smooth detective that outsmarts his foes instead of sticking his foot up their ass.
Downey wants to do an action flick, fine. But Sherlock Homes was never about the action.
