It looks like Simon Pegg will have to walk away from his role in Inglorious Bastards due to a scheduling conflict. We get the following news from the WEBMASTER at FILM JUNK:
Tough break folks, it looks like Simon Pegg won’t be starring in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards after all. Pegg revealed on his MySpace blog that there were “insurmountable scheduling difficulties” with his upcoming film Paul (which we reported on back in May). However, he has also revealed that Superbad director Greg Mottola has signed on for the project, which is an exciting prospect indeed. Some might say it’s crazy to turn down a role in a Tarantino flick, but it seems that Pegg is honouring his other obligations and you have to respect him for that.
When word was first swirling about Inglorious Bastards years ago, Tarantino hinted that he wanted to bring Stallone and Schwarzenegger on board and make the ultimate war movie. Now he is courting Simon Pegg and Mike Myers? I suppose he has decided to change the direction of the film, which sucks, because when I first heard wind of this film – I was very excited. Now I am a little confused, and wonder what type of film we can expect.
I got my hands on a copy of the screenplay but haven’t read it. I don’t usually like to read them, because I like to be surprised….but curiosity may get the better of me with this one. If I do decide to read it, I will put up a review for you guys to check out.
Now that Pegg is off the project, I am wondering who will fill his shoes. With luck Stallone will be considered anew.
