It looks like Vin is going to direct a short prequel for the Fast And The Furious franchise. We get wind of this from our friends at comingsoon:
Vin Diesel, who stars in next Friday’s Babylon A.D., told ComingSoon.net today that he is directing a 20-minute prequel to Fast and Furious, the fourth installment in the Universal Pictures franchise.
Diesel will star in the prequel along with Michelle Rodriguez reprising her role as Letty and Sung Kang returning as Han. Diesel didn’t say how the prequel would premiere; it could be on a DVD, online, TV, etc.
I am not a huge fan of these films, nor do I think they need to care about continuity. Just keep putting out different auto racing films as stand alone projects. That is basically what the third film was, and I liked that one best.
If Vin wants to do a prequel, more power to him, but I think trying to over explain the history of our heroes is played out and a mistake. Patton Oswalt has a great joke about this very fact. “I like Angelina Jolie, but I don’t need to see John Voight’s balls, I don’t need to know where the stuff I love comes from.” I am probably butchering the joke – but you get the idea.
