Long before people were dragging quotes out of Jim Carrey movies and Austin Powers it was Spaceballs. I could watch that movie with the sound off and not miss a single word in my head. To this day I work in IT and when dealing with computers I sometimes have to ask for passwords to get into their machines, and more than once I have said “That’s the kind of thing an idiot puts on his luggage”… then I have to explain myself before I get fired.
There were rumours of Spaceballs 3: The Search for Part 2 coming out, but it just didn’t happen. Well now 21 years later, G4TechTVV is bringing us Spaceballs: The Animated Series.
It appears the long awaited sequel, the quest for more money has finally found itself into reality thanks to G4TechTV (my fav channel on TV), and now that we get a look it seems that much of the humour is based around breasts. I can deal with that.
I don’t know that it captures the original charm that the master of the spoof offered (The current breed of “spoof movies” are an offense to the term) but still look to have some fun.
Returning to reprise her role is Daphne Zuniga as the Druish Princess Vespa (who recently returned to dramaqueen tv as Brooke’s manipulative mom on One Tree Hill – shuddap, Im hooked), and Mel Brooks himself as President Scroob/Yogurt. Sadly John Candy left us, so we will forgive his replacement as his own best friend the Mog (Half man, half dog) Barfolamew by the relatively minor voice actor Tino Insana, best known for the Pig in Barnyard and the upcoming sequel. Also, it is a shame Bill Pullman couldn’t lend his cheesy swagger to Lonestar, and instead we get Batman/Spiderman animated voice actor (and Canadian) Rino Romano.
I do love the sense of humour G4Tech tends to breed into its productions so I have high hopes for this. We will have to see how it does.
