Terry Rossio the co-screenwriter for Pirates of the Caribbean has decided to set some of the regarding the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film straight. We get the scoop from the horse’s mouth thanks to the good people over at comingsoon:
Rossio writes: For the record, none of the recent Pirates 4 rumors have any truth, including the so-called record 50 million dollar payday for Depp. Some pretty funny stuff, though. Sacha Cohen? Tim Burton? Studios are way too protective of their franchises for that sort of thing. The only thing that has been officially announced so far is that Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth film.
I don’t know why this guy is hating on Cohen and Burton, they couldn’t make his shitty franchise any worse. He’s probably correct about the studio not wanting to mess with a winning formula however. I just hope they mix it up enough to warrant a fourth film. Making it 90 minutes long should be priority number 1 in my books.
A film about Pirates doesn’t need to me more than 90 minutes, no way, no how. At 90 minutes you could even throw in a sad song from a parrot.
Jack Sparrow is the best part of the films, and I’m glad he’s back. With luck the fourth outing will be free of love triangles and let him loose to flamboyant antics and treacherous piracy. I want the Jack Sparrow show.
