As I mentioned in my review of The Day The Earth Stood Still a few days ago, the flick isn’t really any good, but at the same time wasn’t a complete waste either. I’d generally say the movie was a bit disappointing, but not the worst thing I’ve seen this month either.
But get ready to see a new batch of commercials for the movie… because now The Day The Earth Stood Still is the “#1 Movie In America”. Yeah… that sounds impressive doesn’t it? Except for the little fact that it opened again basically nothing. The next opening film, “Nothing Like The Holidays” came in at #7… and that was it for wide releases.
Other films of note on the box office list… Twilight continues to do pretty well passing the $150 million mark (not bad for a film that only spent $37 million making it), and Australia continues to bomb big time. In it’s 3rd week of release its only managed to pull in $38 million… which isn’t too awful until you realize it cost over $150 million to make. OUCH!
