Looks like Frank Miller will be drawing in on doing Buck Rogers.
Odd Lot is in negotiations to option the rights to “Rogers” from Nu Image/Millennium, which obtained those rights this year from the Dille Trust. Millennium is expected to get a credit on the movie but won’t be involved in day-to-day production.
Miller will write and direct his own big-screen take on the comic serial; while the creator has only begun to sketch ideas, it’s expected to be a darker take, with many of Miller’s signature visual elements and themes, such as corruption and redemption.
I was never a big fan of Buck Rogers in my youth, but I am pretty certain it didnt revolve around themes of corruption and redemption. Buck was a man thrust through time and ended up helping a warring faction in their struggles. The story was always just pure adventure to me.
I don’t have anything against stories of corruption and redemption, but I get a little worried when I hear the themes are being applied to remakes of old serials that didn’t have those elements.
Also, I would hope that Frank Miller might do this without over stylizing it like his previous Sin City and 300 efforts.
