Hugh Jackman turns down Cleopatra

Hugh Jackman makes the ladies purr and so who better to play the legendary Marc Anthony. However Jackman is saying his schedule is too tight to take on the role, so the rumoured casting never saw the dotted line.

IESB.net says:

No deal had been signed as the ambitious $30 million project is completing its financing, but Soderbergh asked his “Traffic” star Zeta-Jones to play Cleopatra and wanted new Oscar host Jackman to play her lover, the Roman general Marc Antony.

The project seems to want to set it as a rock musical much like “Elvis Presley movies” with rock tunes scattered about to punctuate the plot performed by the cast.

No one knows what this project is that is causing the scheduling conflict, but instead of assuming that its just a line I just hope that there is something BETTER on Jackman’s horizon that he is leaving room for.
