The new TV Spot for the Watchmen has aired and is available online YouTube but its mostly just a trimmed 30 second version of the Trailer. Nothing new there.
But the aforementioned Fronteirsman website promoting the film is officially launched with content. Cool stuff. I already have the Silk Spectre on my desktop.
Also, the previously-announced viral site TheNewFrontiersman.com has opened this morning. The images there are the first of a series of content exclusives to be released through the site, including correspondence, military documents, newspaper and magazine articles, photographs and video reports.
It feels good to talk about the Watchmen and see a release date knowing it will happen. I won’t be missing this one.
But honestly I wish they would stop calling these promotional websites “viral”. Its not. If you have to CALL it viral, its not viral. Numa-numa guy was viral. Just put out there for fun and became a pop culture sensation. It spread without intent… like a virus. And like it or not you saw it sooner or later or even heard about it. Intentionally advertising is not viral.
A website to promote the film is just a website. Cool website with a great storyhook to the film, great theme. But its just a promo website.
Not viral.
