Capturing the Friedmans is the Academy Award nominated 2003 documentary that focuses on the investigation of Arnold and Jesse Friedman for child molestation. The film is controversial to say the least and even garnered a protest to the Award Committee from alleged victims and family memebers of the duo to omit the film. Director Andrew Jarecki initially sought to create a film about children’s birthday party entertainers and, through research, discovered that the brothers were convicted of child sexual abuse and changed direction of his film to focus on the Friedmans themselves.
