V for Vendetta press conference gives much hope

V4Vendetta.jpgThis is good news in the comic adaptation genre though, forget the Marvel oversell we’ve just seen, let’s think V for Vendetta and pick through an article from MyMovies through Coming Soon on the production start-up press conference.

director John McTeigue explained he intends to use Lloyd’s graphics as “leaping off points” and wants to give London a “neo√¢‚Ǩ‚Äúfuturistic” look that will compliment the dark tone of the script.

…some hardcore “V For Vendetta” aficionados have expressed concern that, given the Wachowski’s involvement, the film will be a victory for style over substance and that the Moore’s original message will get lost in a flurry of special effects. But Joel Silver disagrees. “This is more people centred than The Matrix [and there’s] not so much reliance on the CGI in effects,” he said while McTeigue stressed that his movie will stay true to “the themes of the graphic novel and runs close to what Alan Moore wrote and tried to say.” Add to this that all the post√¢‚Ǩ‚Äúproduction will be done in the UK and it would appear that the project’s British heritage is being carefully preserved √¢‚Ǩ‚Äú even the film’s official logo has been amended and now comes straight from Lloyd’s artwork.

This is really good news. Looking at the work done in the first of the Matrix you do get a real sense of recreating the graphic novel feel, particular shots stand out as looking just like novella frames. However, watch the rest of the trilogy and you quickly loose that for just as those fans say, style over substance. I’m glad to hear that they are concentrating on the feel, and it sounds like they’re going about it the right way too.

Will Moore himself be involved? Well apparently Larry Wachowski has spoken with him and the hope is that “V For Vendetta’s” co√¢‚Ǩ‚Äúcreator will take a more hands on role when the production moves to the UK. But one things for sure √¢‚Ǩ‚Äú “V For Vendetta” is a one shot deal and there will be no sequel as Silver confirmed, saying “This is it, it doesn’t go past this.”

Wow! This is even better news. No plans for a sequel, concentrate on this movie and not bastardise it into a franchise of money making movies, and get Moore in on the act, the guy who created it. Not just name on credits either. My hopes for this movie just shot way up.
