We are getting closer to the Russell Crowe take on the Robin Hood legend, and now a press release says that tells of some of the supporting cast of nobles and their dedicated public servants will be.
Joining Crowe and Blanchett for the film are Oscar® winner Vanessa Redgrave (Julia, Atonement) as John and Richard’s mother, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine; Mark Strong (Body of Lies, Stardust) as King John’s vicious henchman, Sir Godfrey; Oscar Isaac (Che, Body of Lies) as King John; and Léa Seydoux (13 French Street, upcoming Inglourious Basterds) as the woman who will become queen, French Princess Isabella.
Sounds like a solid cast so far, and though I have complete faith in Russell Crowe, I still wish this movie was going to be the rumoured Nottingham story. In that variation Crowe was playing the Sherriff of Nottingham, bound by his duty to a corrupt Prince, and disguising himself as Robin Hood to fight back. That idea put a fresh spin on the story, and so far this story sounds the same as every other Robin Hood story.
But the cast is shaping up nicely, and Crowe hasn’t let me down. So I am still hopeful!
