All I remember from the 1980 version of Fame was the song. Its just been too long since I have seen it, and I wouldn’t say I was a fan. I know I occassionally flopped the massive dail on my family television past the subsequent TV show a few times but at the time I was more interested in Americanized Anime.
But now I see the trailer for Fame and at first it might look like another “Step Up” or any other dance flick. But read the description at Coming Soon and suddenly I want to see more:
Fame follows a talented group of dancers, singers, actors, and artists over four years at the New York City High School of Performing Arts, a diverse, creative powerhouse where students from all walks of life are given a chance to live out their dreams and achieve real and lasting fame…the kind that comes only from talent, dedication, and hard work.
They won’t be telling the story of how in a few weeks some talented dancer/drummer/singer/dancer comes out of nowhere to offer their unique twist to win the contest. This looks like it will have a heart to it, and offer a story that spans an entire career at the school. Sure, it will have musical performances, dancing and singing. But that doesn’t mean it will be some eyecandy fluff. I sense that there will be a deeper story of the lives of a performing art student and their struggles.
I look forward to seeing this.
