I’m a fan of Forrest Whitaker, he’s got style, uniqueness and that’s just his directing and acting, he also doesn’t look like your typical Hollywood star, nor does he act like one. Ghost Dog, although sometimes confused, was a gem of a movie and had style galore.
So it’s good news to hear that he’s back in front of the camera for a movie that somehow caught my eye, Last King of Scotland sounds an interesting project, although not much to do with Scotland! From The Hollywood Reporter through Coming Soon
…a political drama that Kevin MacDonald (Touching the Void) is directing for Fox Searchlight, says The Hollywood Reporter. James McAvoy also has been cast to star in the film.
Set in the 1970s, the project is based on Giles Foden’s award-winning novel that blends history and fiction. It centers on a Scottish doctor who, through a twist of fate, becomes the hand-picked personal physician of the then-new president of Uganda. At first, the doctor is flattered by his new position but soon awakens to Amin’s savagery and his own complicity in it.
What’s good is that filming will be in both Uganda and the UK, which is great considering the expense that the production will fork out just to set up a camera here.
After watching Tears of the Sun and being very surprised by the quality of the movie and the humanity of the storyline, I am happy to see more projects coming that are highlighting the plight of many of the African countries. The DVD extras on that movie are an education, and a wake-up call. So I’ll look forward to this movie to bring out some of the tragedy that has been missed by the media.
