Jason Bateman is one of my favourite actors to see in a film. And recently we heard news that one of his films was getting a sequel, but we didn’t hear about Bateman being involved. And it seems that Bateman hasn’t heard from Hancock 2 either.
Variety reported “Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman are gearing up to reunite for the sequel to Columbia Pictures’ “Hancock,” with Peter Berg set to helm the action-comedy.”
But earlier today when I covered the “Couples Retreat” international press day for our partners at Omelete, Jason told me, “I don’t know where that writer gets their information from as I haven’t been contacted, nor have my representatives.”
Most of the sources I read (and discussed here) was about Theron and Smith signing on for the sequel, so I am not surprised that Bateman wasn’t in on it. Personally, I am curious to see what might come of a plot that doesn’t have Bateman in it. I thought the film ended with him moving on with his married life and Hancock moving to become a respectable superhero in another city.
And when asked about the status of the Arrested Development Batemen says its being written with hopes of it being filmed next year.
I would assume it’s not going to be anything more than a long episode. I don’t think there’s any need to go further than that. I think it might be wrong to. Hopefully, people will be willing to pay money to see what will amount to be three or four new episodes all stuck together as one long one. I don’t know. Hopefully interest has not waned cause selfishly we all want to get back together and do it again. So hopefully there will be enough people to see it to break even.
I have been told I need to watch this show, but I know it has a big following. Hopefully enough to make for a good showing if the movie is made.
