The Harvard Lampoon used to be known for their scathing parody novels, but they haven’t published one since 1969’s Bored of the Rings.
But even they couldnt resist the Vampire-mania spawned by Twilight, and they strike to the core of the phenom deconstructing Twilight with a tongue in cheek.
According to the Vintage release, Nightlight follows a “pale and klutzy” girl named Belle Goose, who moves to Switchblade, Oregon, and meets Edwart Mullen, a “super-hot computer nerd with zero interest in girls.” The vampire-obsessed Belle becomes convinced Edwart is one of the undead after witnessing events she considers otherworldly (“Edwart leaves his Tater Tots™ untouched at lunch! Edwart saves her from a flying snowball!”).
Mimickery is the highest form of flattery, and getting spoofed by a reputable source is high praise. While others will revel in the ribbing Twilight will get, this is truly a nod to Meyer’s work.
I think this one will be added to my bookcase!
