Bad Boys might have taken the Fresh out of the Prince but it was Independence Day that put him in our hearts.
Ok, it was just the most fun senseless action film. It was great and I love it. But I don’t need a sequel. Sadly Ronald Emmerich does.
Emmerich said he and Dean Devlin are ready to develop the project, but Fox is having issues working out the filmmakers’ and Will Smith’s deals. And, of course, you can’t have “ID4” without Will, right?
Here’s what he had to say:
Will wants to do it in some sort of a package they can live with. So it’s just been in negations now since forever, and naturally FOX says “Why don’t you do it without Will Smith?” I said Will is essential for us, for this movie and actually for the audience too. And, so, it’s in limbo and lately the studios are fighting.
I checked on IMDB and Will Smith has 25 projects on deck, so I imagine his dance card will be pretty full.
This means that Emmerich will have to consider doing this movie without Smith. Which will make the idea completely unbankable, and therefore it will die like my highschool ambitions to date Alisha Townsend.
Besides, what will they call it? ID1: Canada Day?
It was the only country not depicted as being hit in the film – we hear the Aliens thought we were too nice and Toronto was nice in the summers.
