An official synopsis for MacGruber has hit the net. The film is based on the Saturday Night Live skit spoofing MacGyver, with Will Forte and Kristen Wiig.
In the 10 years since his fiancée was killed, special op MacGruber has sworn off a life of fighting crime with his bare hands. But when he learns that his country needs him to find a nuclear warhead that’s been stolen by his sworn enemy, Dieter Von Cunth (Val Kilmer), MacGruber figures he’s the only one tough enough for the job.
Sounds like a standard enough plot for what promises to be a mixed bag of appeal. Saturday Night Live sketches tend to be hit or miss as the comedy either grabs your tickly spot or not at all.
I do wonder about the real MacGyver film rumoured to be in the works. Will a spoof of MacGyver build buzz for its source material, or will it curse the film before it even comes out?
