Because financially there is no reason NOT to make a sequel to Stomp the Yard. And they have signed on Columbus Short to reprise his role for the sequel.
Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming.
Columbus Short (Whiteout, Armored), who starred in the original Sony Screen Gems release, is in negotiations to reprise his role as DJ, a master street dancer. Other casting is under way. The sequel is set to shoot early next month in Atlanta.
The first “Stomp the Yard” film hit theaters in January of 2007 and went on to earn $75 million in worldwide ticket sales on a $13 million budget.
I have to admit these dance movies do have their entertainment value. Between all of the performance numbers the acting doesn’t have to be great. People are not going to see that stuff.
And the chorographed to perfection dance scenes are fun to watch regardless of the rest of the movie. I expect the same out of this even if the acting is average at best.
And with the low cost of filming, no special effects, no massive name to pay, this is the perfect opportunity to make a few bucks for the studio.
