Back in late 2004 we mentioned that another Texas Chainsaw Massacre film was in development and that it would be set as a prequel. Looks like that is all still holding true and they’ve also just got themselves a director. I’m actually a little surprised it took them this long.
The guy behind the camera for this project is Jonathan Liebesman, who got some positive attention with his work on Darkness Falls.
So how on earth do you do a prequel to a film like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Well, the good folks over at Empire have an interesting (even if it’s sarcastic) idea:
The prequel will tell us something about the origins of the terrifying Leatherface, presumably focusing on his early career as an artist in pre-War Vienna – well, something like that – and how a sweet young man with a beautiful singing voice and angelic blonde hair (possibly) turned into a flesh-wearing, chainsaw-wielding homicidal maniac. Ah, the eternal story! But don’t worry – it isn’t all character development and psychological backstory. There’s lots of “teens in peril running for their lives” as well
Too funny! Still… I’m really not sure that I like the idea very much. Oh well… as usually I guess it’s a “wait and see” situation. To be honest I didn’t really like the first one all that much either.
