Kevin McKidd talks Modern Warfare and Rome

Kevin McKidd is a hidden talent that I am surprised hasn’t blown up into Sam Worthington proportions. But his role on Grey’s Anatomy might have the ladies swooning, but its his physical presence that gives him an air of leadership and intimidation on screen. Even his voice carries presence, which made his character on the Call of Duty game franchise that much more impressive.

Kevin McKidd mentioned would entertain the notion of stepping up that role in a feature film based on the franchise. And considering the $310 million the game raked in on the day of its release would qualify it for one of those titles that could make the leap to the big screen.

DarkHorizons shares:

The “Grey’s Anatomy” star, who voices the Captain “Soap” McTavish character in both the ‘Modern Warfare’ entries in the series, adds that he’d definitely consider tackling his character in the flesh – “if the script is good, and Gerard [Butler] isn’t available, then absolutely.”

The talk is purely McKidd trying to position himself for the role should the flim get made. Personally I would love to see Kevin McKidd and Gerard Butler in some action flick. I think McKidd could kick his sparta and I don’t think he should sell himself short. Lucius Vorenus can kick King Leonidas ass any day.

I have a kneejerk reaction that a movie based on a video game is automatically fraught with obsticles, but adapting Modern Warfare is really just a modern realistic military flick. And I could deal with McKidd in a role as a military officer.

Not all video games suck, just most of them happen to turn out that way. This however would be one of those cases where they would be adapting an unrelated script about a modern military engagement and attaching it to the insane popularity of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare franchise.

Also, McKidd’s role in HBO’s Rome was legendary. And speaking of which, while Kevin was spewing in his modesty he did let mention there is a script being shown about to make the series into a feature film. I’d sooner see that.
